The murder case of businessman from Indore, a mere 29 years old, Raja Raghuvanshi on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has shook the nation. What had initially seemed to be an unfortunate accident of where the husband disappeared, has later transformed into a chilling tale of betrayal, conspiracy, a calculated murder plan formulated by the deceased's newlywed wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.
As per the findings of the investigation found till date, Sonam allegedly planned the murder of her husband, even before the wedding took place. It is found during the investigations that the accused was allegedly in a relationship with another man Raj Kushwaha, thereby orchestrating the killing with the help of hired killers.
As per the reports, an amount of ₹20 lakh was paid by Sonam to execute the murder. With the help of her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, she allegedly urged Raja to the isolated trekking route where he could be ambushed, thus pushing to the gorge.
A coordinated effort was made by the police from the states of Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The arrested individuals include-
Five accused arrested have been produced before the Shillong District Court and have been sent for judicial custody for further investigation. Sonam and Raj have been remanded for a period of 13 days.
Investigation took a new turn when call log revealed frequent calls between Sonam and a man identified as Sanjay Verma, who could be a possible co-conspirator or accomplice.
In spite of falling from such huge height, there were no broken bones found in the body of Raja, thus raising questions regarding the exact manner of death as well as a possible injury even before the fall.
A grieving family of the victim is demanding a death penalty for the accused, terming the murder as a “pre-planned, brutal murder for personal gain.”
The brother of the victim has publicly condemned her, stating that the family has severed ties with her. While on the other hand, the father of the victim has demanded a CBI investigation, claiming that the Meghalaya police has manipulated the case.
The murder of the victim could be called as a chilling example of a calculated crime which was cloaked in the guise of marital bliss. With more details emerging—from romantic betrayal to dark occult allegations—the case is soon turning into a sensational saga of trust being broken and justice being demanded. In the coming weeks, the courts will determine the fate of those involved with the case, thus bringing out the complete truth about tragic death of Raja.
